Oh. My. Goodness. Yes, this was me all week.
We started school on MONDAY! Who's idea was that? I was pretty excited to meet and spend time with my new littles. Hubs was so sweet and sent my team each our own cookie bouquets We joked all week in terms of cookies and cake balls. Wednesday was a cookie and cake ball kinda day. Haha! Seriously, I LOVE my team!!
I forget how needy my little friends are at the beginning of the
year. By the end of day one, everything in my body hurt. By the end of day two,
I felt like I had been run over by elephants. It took everything to get home,
make dinner, and flop myself into bed. Okay, I am being dramatic, or am I? Haha!
I am not sure who decided that starting school on a Monday was the
right thing to do, but I think it should be a law that school should start on a
Wednesday. Don’t you agree? I mean, by Thursdays my littles were complaining by
9:00 a.m. that they couldn’t write their name or even play with PLAYDOUGH for
the love of Pete because they were too tired. Bless their little hearts
(and mine).
There are a million things I want to show you but I only took pictures of one thing so far. So, you get what you get! Haha!
On day two, I introduced Read to Self. We have only done it for a
few minutes, but it is going well. We create the chart of "How to Read a Book". I realize this looks the same as last year but it is a new chart. I always create charts with my kids. It's more meaningful I think.
I keep the book boxes on top of the cubbies. They have the student's names on them. Inside, each has a whisper phone, "reading glasses" (I bought graduate glasses at Oriental Trading on clearance and popped out the lenses), pointer fingers (also from Oriental Trading), and several books all different levels.
The kids can sit or lay anywhere in the room when we read as long as they are not near a friend. So far, they love R2S. Tomorrow we will create an I Can chart. We should have already done that but this teacher keeps forgetting. Sheesh!
Oh, and last thing. My birthday was last Sunday and my sister bought me this cute little purple fridge for my classroom from WalMart.com. Isn't it the cutest? Since I have been clean eating for three weeks now, bringing my food everywhere can be a little challenging so this fridge will come in handy fo sho!
Last week we read the Kissing Hand, started Marshmallow Toes, and Growing Kinders Monster whole body listening. So much to do, so little attention spans. Haha!
In all seriousness, I love my new class. I have a few squirrels but I think we will get along just fine. It's going to be a great year! I will be back soon. I feel like the first week is the hardest but hey, my feet don't hurt today, I have meal prepped for the week, and I feel ready for school tomorrow. Progress people. It's good times!
Have a happy Monday!! Love and virtual hugs!
I start tomorrow and I'm freaking...I know it can never all get done... but I'm ms perfectionist sometimes. so glad your week has started out well. like the idea of putting the whisper phones in the book box. might need to try that. you gave this stressed out teacher the boost of confidence I needed... everything will work out.. it always does :)

A few squirrels, hahah I love that! Hopefully this week won't be quite as exhausting as the first!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your ideas! Wishing you a wonderful year ahead!
ReplyDeleteLove the "tired" picture. It so fits this time of year! I also love the reading glasses. Great idea! I will have to get some for my little guys, who also like RTS.

I love that you have whisper phones, glasses, and pointers in their book boxes! I think I will be getting those witch fingers for my kids! Most of my readers are very quiet right now and we use whisper phones at the guided reading table. I like using them their so I can wipe them down after each use... you know they love to put their mouth all over it. The glasses are also a super idea for kids that need to focus and not have a wandering eye! How sweet is you husband?! What a great guy! He obviously knew what you and your team needed to get through the week. I also feel/look like that tired dog after everyday and this is my 3rd week of school!

That picture is me for sure and we haven't even started with the kids yet! I can only imagine how crazy tired I will be then! If your kinders are too tired to even play with play doh that's saying something! I can't believe you started on a Monday! What were they thinking! Hopefully you have a better and less tiring week ahead!
